Pickup on the way to Lyngen
Seljelvnes and Nordkjosbotn are on the road from Tromsø towards Lyngen: from Nordkjosbotn it is about an hour's drive (around 60 km) to Lyngseidet. Pick up the gear on your way and drop it off on your way back.
Season and safety
The touring season is longest in spring, when the days are long – March to May is the classic time. Backcountry skiing means avalanche terrain: check varsom.no every day, carry a beacon, shovel and probe and know how to use them, or go with a certified guide. Avalanche safety gear is not included unless the listing says so.
Where you pick up
The gear is kept at Seljelvnes in Balsfjord, on the E8 about 70 km (roughly 1 h 15 min by car) south of Tromsø city centre. You can also choose the free meeting point at the Coop Extra Nordkjosbotn parking lot, about 10 minutes further on where the E8 meets the E6 – easy to find and open to the public. You get the exact address, pickup time and the owner's phone number as soon as you book. Pickup is easiest if you have a car or are driving on towards Lyngen or Senja.
